The fetus makes its own insulin, the agent that carries sugar into the tissues. All excess sugars you consume that raise your bodies blood sugar will raise that of the fetus and result in deposit of any excess in the baby within their tissues. When the cord is clamped and your sugar supplies stop, baby must transition to their own stores. Excesses may trigger a transient low blood sugar in baby.
