DEPENDS: If you are talking about orthodontic extractions i would wait till you have your child. The orthodontist and surgeon probably won't treat you while your pregnant (standard). If it is an extraction due to decay or infection, then you should have it removed during your second trimester to be safe. No xrays.

Not recommended: You can have teeth removed while pregnant, usually only if necessary due to infection, pain, or injury. To elect to have healthy teeth removed while pregnant in order to get braces is unwise, but is a personal decision. You should have a frank discussion with both your dentist and your obstetrician about this before you decide to move forward.

Yes, but...: Chance of health risk from extractions is small, from braces is practically nonexistent. Try not to have surgery (extractions) during 1st trimester, and probably best to wait for extractions until after you deliver. Many of our adult female patients have gotten pregnant while braces were in place without adverse consequence to mother or child. Ask your ob-gyn & your orthodontic specialist.
