A member asked:

I have cam fai and had an mri done, but instead of showing labral tear there was "superior chondral labral separation; degeneration with mild blunting of the anterosuperior labrum." how different is that from a tear? is arthroscopy still used? thank?

Sounds more of a chronic wear and tear arthritis Either way, CAM issues may be more definitively managed surgically

By definition, chondrolabral separation is also called (slightly inaccurately) a “labral tear” – the actual labrum itself may not tear initially, but it does tear away from the edge of the acetabulum, resulting in an abnormal gap between the articular cartilage (“chondro”) of the acetabulum and the labrum.
