Good day doctor. what are the chances of having cancer from two ct scans of colon, ct colonography. i heard that ct scans causes cancer due to radiation after 10 to 15 years . please advice. thanks?

Prob the same likely-hood you will be struck by lightning or lower. To make more precise estimate we need to know the number of Rads you go with these studies so ask the radiologist who did studies as they know the machines used and the RADs you got. Google has much more info. For example a Colon CT gives you about the same amount of radiation you normally get from the living on earth for 2 years

The amount of radiation from what you described would not measurably raise your risk of cancer above your risk without the CTs. You can reduce your risk of cancer by adopting healthy habits: Eat a mostly vegetarian diet, avoid alcohol, tobacco and street drugs, avoid excessive exposure to sun, get HPV vaccine, exercise 30 minutes each day, drink enough water so your urine is mostly colorless.

we do try to avoid CT scans in young children who are growing because of those concerns. however, One or 2 individual CT scans do not increase your risk much. but 20 or 30 scans is a different matter
