86 year old male issued famotidine oral on discharge from hospital as patient was temporarily intubated. but famotidine falls under zantac brand name and zantac had major lawsuits as it was life threatening drug. so is it safe to use famotidine?

Famotidine has side effects like all medications. Each medication is given with risks and benefits in mind. I recommend famotidine regularly.

The original Zantac had ranitidine not famotidine in it. Best to clarify would be with his primary care doc at the post hospital stay visit. he or she will be best to comment if he really needs to take it and if so which product from the respective class.
