I assume that you have severe GERD so you need both stomach acid blockers (famotidine, a histamin 2 antagonist and prilosec, a proton pump inhibitor) in order to control the symptoms. However, if you take both at OTC dose (10 or 20 mg, one a day), you probably need take only one with a higher dose, either 20 mg or even 40 mg, twice a day with a script. You can take those tablets whenever you want.
