Do not be concerned. About half of adults have been infected with HSV 1. Most people suffer no ill effects from the infection, other than occasional cold sore.

Positive for HSV-1 is very common, up to 50% of adults in America, so 1 out of 2 is already infected. You can further decrease the risk of transmission to the uninfected friend by avoiding contact (oral-oral, oral-genital) when you have active oral lesion(s). No, you are not prohibiting from kissing if you are positive for HSV-1.
