Infectious : Hsv 1 doesn't ever really go away. The infectious stage is when there is an outbreak, called a cold sore. Can be on the lip, nose, gingiva. If there are little blisters present, the period before this when it becomes painful until the period where the crusting over is through are all infectious. Mostly at the early stage. If there is no outbreak, there isn't an active disease to transmit.

Depends on what you: Hsv1 virus will stay forever but most people already have it. Most people have no symptoms. Some people get localized sores which may occur once or occur frequently. Virus is present on some days when there is no visible sign of it. So you can sometimes transmit it to a person who does not have it. It is more contagious when a sore is present, but most spread occurs when there is nothing evident.

No ; risky: Hsv1 is a virus that does not go away , but it stays dormant sometimes instead , and exacerbate other times , so kissing also is risky if you or the other party have any open wounds..
