My husband (83) was put on twenty mg prozac ten weeks ago. he hasnt seen much improvement in his depression. should he go to a higher dose or should he wait longer?

He is at advanced age so I would wait for a couple more weeks. If dose needs to be increased later on, adding 10 mg in the evening and keep the AM dose at 20 mg.

This of course is a question for the prescriber. When Prozac (fluoxetine) first came out, 20 mg/day was considered the standard dose. Now, dose of 40-60 mg/day are common. Unless side effects prohibit increasing the dose, 20 mg/d would not be considered by most to be an adequate trial.
