After an 8 hour fast, my blood test was normal. my urine test showed glucose, but my gp said it was insignificant. could that mean i have diabetes?

Need more information. What was the plasma glucose value? You could consider getting an A1c test that does not require fasting. With the information you provided it is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion.

I agree with Dr. Singh. Fasting blood sugar (glycemia) can miss early diabetes when your glycemia is quite high with non fasting or after meal (post prandial) blood test. If you have confirmed glucose in urine, either you have glycemia above 180 or you have some abnormality of the kidney's proximal tubules. You need a blood test for HbA1C or postprandial glycemia.
