By UPTODATE: over 50 percent of patients may experience spontaneous resolution of ganglion cysts and do not require intervention. In you case because of the discomfort, you can have the cyst aspirated if you do not want surgery. However, more than half will recur within a year.

it is posssible by a trained hand surgeon after an X-ray, to puncture the cyst, drain it and inject a small amount of steroid to shrink it in place.
