MRI with contrast: It sounds like the surgeon did not completely remove the 'stalk'(from where the ganglion originated) . Thus you were more prone to recurrence. Ganglion cysts are notorious for recurrence because oftentimes you cannot completely discern its origin. I recommend an MRI with contrast to accurately evaluate the extent and originationpart of the foot (joint or tendon) of the ganglion.

MRI: If you have had 3 surgeries and no resolution than an MRI would be called for to see the exat etent of the cyst.
