With tonsillitis you only see the enlarged tonsil and exudate but in peritonsillar abscess you will see the engorged swelling of the pharyngeal structure next to the inflammed tonsil and it pushes to tonsil to the uvula. High fever and painful swallowing are prominent in peritonsillar abscess and you are quite sick, much more than tonsillitis. Please see your doctor or visit urgent care.
