A member asked:

The back of my head has been making a popping/cracking noise. (right above where neck and head meet) it will even do it when i'm not moving. first noticed it when i trying to sleep but now i hear it a lot. also have ringing in ears. thoughts?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

While crackling noises from ligaments in the neck are common, they are puzzling if you hear them in the scalp or skull especially when you are not moving your head. Tinnitus is rather common. For full evaluation of these symptoms I would consult both an otolaryngologist and neurologist.
