Usually the goal in the management of chronic inflammatory diseases is to get the symptoms under control and then switch to maintenance treatment to keep you well as there are usually no permanent cures. This is where long term follow up with a gastroenterologist can seal a proper diagnosis. The limited history available is strongly suggesting a form of inflammatory bowel disease that may be mild, time and proper follow up will answer your question.
