A member asked:

Would a pus like discharge and burning when i pee be a kidney infection or chlamydia. i was just treated for gonorrhea but is it possible to have them both at the same time? does the treatment for gonorrhea the same as the one for chlamydia?

When patient is tested for STD, both gonorrhea and chlamydia should be tested but it seemed you were treated without testing. When we cannot test, we treat both conditions at the same time. If you were treated with an injection, you need a new medication for possible chlamydia or if you were treated with pill, you may be infected with a resistant strain. This time, you should be tested before Tx.

Definitely, a coexisting infection is possible and many times Chlamydia is treated empirically in order to prevent long term complications from untreated infection.

Dr. Silviu Pasniciuc is correct (as usual!). Also, sometimes gonorrhea may be resistant to some antibiotics. So be sure that you still do not have that as well. Get checked for other causes of infection as well. If you have back pain, fever of 100.1 or higher, abdominal pain or vomiting, go to ER.
