As for nonprescription meds, acetaminophen is strictly a pain reliever but anti-inflammatory meds like ibuprofen or naproxen can provide both pain relief and anti inflammation effects both for the spine and other joints & muscles of the body.

Pain medications can provide modest palliation and symptom improvement but will not change anatomical deterioration secondary to arthritis. Prefer physical therapy and exercise as a more impactful approach.
