A member asked:

Is cholesterol polyp in the gallbladder measuring 3.4mm (0.134 in) dangerous or will eventually require surgery? is it a form of cancer? can this polyp go away on its own?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

95% of gall bladder polyps are felt to be benign. Gall bladder polyps over 0.75 inches are recommended to be removed. Others are followed by 6 months to yearly ultrasounds to assure no growth or malignant transformation. I always asked an abdominal surgeon to do the follow-up in my patients with gall bladder polyps.
