Pain in the foot can be caused by injury (if you experienced a traumatic blow or pressure), muscular (if you overexerted by exercise or long standing), and tendon (if there was a stretching or movement that might have damaged tendons or ligaments). Your best option is to have the foot examined to make sure there is nothing going on that needs treatment. It may get worse if left untreated.

Your first condition that you describe sounds like a Morton’s neuroma. Tight fitting shoes can exacerbate thickening of the nerve. Continued irritation causes thickening and enlargement of the nerve. Is there a different methods available for this diagnosis. Problem two. A nerve traverses along the top of the foot. Shoe can cause irritation of the nerve over bony prominence
