Usually it takes much longer biliary leak and sludge accumulation in liver to cause liver cells to die. Most likely not cirrhosis but some liver damage may have occurred. Liver has significant reserves so it has to be destroyed pretty much 80% or so before one feels the loss. Hope it helps.

What you described is unlikely to result in cirrhosis. Your brother should abstain from alcohol. For healthy diet: http://www.choosemyplate.gov/., exercise 30 minutes/day, drink enough water daily so your urine is mostly colorless, have safe sex, no tobacco alcohol weed or street drugs.
