Liver cirrhosis is not caused by obstructive bile flow for the length of time mentioned, but chronic liver infection or alcohol abuse is the usual cause of cirrhosis.

This length of time of biliary obstruction will not cause cirrhosis, as long as obstruction does not recur. He should get vaccinated for Hepatitis A and B. Avoid alcohol and maintain healthy weight. Wish you and your brother good health!
