My brother had an ercp 10 years ago, not sure if a stent was placed. till date he has shown no signs of stent blockage and no acute cholangitis as well. so, if a stent is still present, will this forgotten cbd stent cause liver cirrhosis?

Biliary stents need change every 3-6 months After 3 years, they get hardened and can form biliary stone, pancreatitis, displaced stent, cholangitis. Risk of liver abscess, secondary sclerosing cholangitis and biliary cirrhosis increase it will be better to be sure that there is no stent with imaging. Hope it helps. .
