A member asked:

Can one episode of cholangitis and a short duration of bile duct obstruction (choledocolithiasis) cause liver cirrhosis? the patient is my brother who otherwise had no liver issue in the past. he is non-alcoholic. his lfts are now normal post ercp?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

One episode of short liver biliary obstruction is not associated with cirrhosis. It is imperative that your brother be evaluated to rule out other health issues. Non-alcoholic steatohepatitis is the commonest cause of cirrhosis in some societies. Wish you and your brother good health!
