Skin sloughs daily, whether it is in your mouth (mucosa) or externally. During the day activities like talking, eating, drinking and licking the lips helps to remove the sloughing skin. At night, the movements are diminished and you will notice more sloughed skin particles collected in specific areas such as the corners of your mouth when you awaken. This also becomes more obvious as we age.
