My 17yr old is on 20mg of lexapro. she started on 5mg 4 weeks, 10mg 2 weeks, and 20mg for 2 weeks. she says she doesnt feel better but i feel like she seems a little better, her sleep quality has been poor though. should we switch or stick with it?

Lexapro is ineffective antidepressant and anti anxiety agent. 1 characteristic of the medication is that it has a slow positive onset. The fact that you have noticed improvement is good but it may take several more weeks to see the full effect of the current dose. I would recommend staying with it. Consult with your doctor as you go.

Six to eight weeks of antidepressant drug therapy with a reasonable dose for the person should lead to clinical results (observable meaningful changes) . Lack of change in sleep quality suggests that you change treatments. Having your doctor or psychiatrist test for genetic variations ( polymorphisms) in how your daughter processes drugs may help sort out the best drug for her condition
