The active ingredient is carageenan or similar chemical, which inhibits some viruses. But there are no data on preventing SARS-CoV-2. Vaccination, frequent hand washing, masking, and social distancing are far more important. OTOH, Carragelose is harmless and can't hurt, so feel free to use it if you feel better with a possible extra step in prevention. But don't let up on the other things.
