Disease vs virus: COVID-19 is the name of the infection (for COronaVirus Infectious Disease 2019). SARS-CoV-2 is the formal name for the virus that causes it. (Similar to the difference between AIDS, the disease; and HIV, the virus that causes AIDS.)
