Shingles on both sides of the body is rare but can happen .Shingles in the ear is called Ramsey -Hunt syndrome can affect hearing F/U/ with MD for treatment ( acyclovir or Valtex and steroids ) to limit the infection. https://www.healthline.com/health/ramsay-hunt-syndrome#treatment

Shingles is a process that is limited to one side of the body. The germ hibernates in a nerve root. When it activates it moves down & out into the skin served by that nerve, on one side not both. If you have a process involving both ears it would be something else.
