People who eat very high protein diets have an increased risk of kidney stones. Also a high protein diet which has lots of red meat & higher amounts of saturated fat might lead to an increased risk of heart disease & colon cancer. However, keep in mind protein is vital for life as a building block of every human cell. So you should consume protein regularly in moderation. I wish you well!

How much is too much? I do not think you can eat high protein diet for a long time such as Atkins diet for weight loss because you will crave for the carbohydrate. For a young and healthy person a high protein diet does not affect kidney function. There is no randomized study as I am aware of about the effect of long term high protein diet in kidney function of healthy people.
