I have to say that I've never been a fan of older folks getting benzodiazapines (xanax), chronically or acutely. The risk/benefit ratio of these meds is NEVER very good and for older folks definitely leans negative. The symptoms you describe could be from this. Stopping them is a serious medical decision that requires monitoring.

Exercise. Just simple movements: leg lifts, arm exercises, standing and sitting, walk in place, exert force within a door frame. Swimming or water aerobics are low impact and comfortable. C heck dietary balance; consul with family doctor or dietician for balanced meals and blood tests to determine if there are deficiencies.
