Addiction Medicine: Xanax (alprazolam) and zoloft do not work the same way and are not for treating the same condition. Your question opens up a myriad of questions about your mental health, about the validity of the treatments you have been offered or prescribed. It is very very difficult to get off of prolonged xanax (alprazolam). But, it is very very important to do so. One needs a good relationship with a health care provider they trust.

It sounds like : It has been challenging managing your anxiety. Be honest with you doctor about what works and doesn't work. He will be able to help find the right combination of meds.
