My baby (11 days old) seems to hate having his arms bound in swaddles. he always wiggles them free. lately ive been putting him in arms free swaddles for bed time. is this still safe? or do i need to fully swaddle him and his arms for bed time?

Leave the kid free!!!! Swaddling is a transitional practice that allows a kid use to the constricted environment of the womb to feel comfort in the first days out. Yet they need to gradually get use to the freedom of the outside world. Continued swaddling hampers muscular development.

One need not swaddle a baby ....the baby can sleep in a onesie, or a sleep sack, or T shirt and diaper. If your baby prefers to be swaddled, that is fine too. Be sure not to leave blankets, quilts, soft toys in the bed during sleep time. Congratulations on your newborn!
