The question is whether you awaken with food in your stomach caused by sluggish stomach motility(gastroparesis) or gas buildup. Do you stop eating after supper? If it's gas buildup, don't force yourself to burp as you'll only swallow more air. Taking simethicone at bedtime may prevent gas buildup overnight. Drinking hot water helps breakdown gas so it's passed down the gi tract. See gastroenterolo
