The protection from the usual anti-rabies post exposure shots is thought to last for 2 yrs before boosters are suggested in workers at risk. However, when anyone has a known exposure to a suspected rabid animal additional boosters are given. Local health authorities should be consulted to determine if rabies is active in the area.
