A member asked:

If i am in the very early stage of pregnancy as in 1 week, how dangerous is it to take opiates?

The first 4-6 weeks of pregnancy are CRITICAL for midline development, and it is here that cleft palates, hairlips, and other developmental deformities could occur. It is best to avoid all medications if possible during this period and likely all of pregnancy. Tylenol would be far better than opioids. Contact your obstetrician and get more direction, as this is not my specialty!

It is a good idea to avoid all medications if possible during pregnancy other than the ones you must absolutely require. I would not take opioids in the first trimester of pregnancy.
