Infants younger than 6 months are particularly susceptible to ingredients in cold medicines. It can affect them in serious and dangerous ways such as decreased breathing, intestinal irritation and rapid heart rate. Do not use any cold medicines in children under 6 months. Use warm saline drops to loosen nasal mucus and have them sleep upright in their infant carrier to prevent cough.
