Can not wearing my retainer cause tooth and jaw pain and headaches?

Your orthodontic retainer holds your teeth in their final, harmonious position. Not wearing the retainers may allow your teeth to shift, causing a malocclusion. This can result in tooth pain, jaw pain, and headaches, not to mention crooked teeth and a waste of the time and money put into getting your teeth straight. Have your orthodontist take a look to see if the retainers still fit correctly.

Please make sure you get this evaluated by your orthodontist. It is important to wear the retainer after treatment.

I advise my patients to wear their retainers 24/7 to allow their occlusion to settle and the supporting tissues to fully mature. After a year I have them switch to night-only for as long as they want them tasty straight. If retainers not worn, and teeth shift, joint dysfunction can result. But other causes are possible. return ton your specialist Orthodontist for reevaluation.
