Either way may be successful, it will have to do with being able to restrain from intense activities for long enough to allow for healing, rest will be critical in case non-surgical/conservative/physical therapy approach is chosen. An orthopedic opinion may help in better understanding pros and cons of either approach and by factoring in details ( imaging, current symptoms, goals, etc).

Definitely agree with Dr SP that an orthopedic Dr is best to direct you in this decision. If you do a lot of high risk activities you might benefit from surgery, but either way you will have a significant recovery period before you can resume these activities.
