Your father should see a doctor ASAP. Shortness of breath can be due to serious, even life-threatening conditions, including but not limited to congestive heart failure, bronchospasm, pulmonary embolism, deconditioning, etc. A doctor will be able to diagnose and treat the problem. You can go to an ER if he can’t be seen by his doctor right away. Best of luck to both of you!

Fully agree with Dr Ferranti, as this is NOT a post-stroke issue, and indeed, I too am concerned with a primary cardiac or pulmonary issue. This is best evaluated within a hospital setting, especially if suspicion for thrombotic or embolic mechanisms. Do not wait, get to ER ASAP!!
