A member asked:

Which is safer and more effective for slightly swollen prostrate, alfuzosin or tamsulosin? husband on tamsulosin, but was switched, is this better drug? is it safe? how long can it be taken, and can it just be stopped, or do you have to go off slow?

Both medications act on the same mechanism but if your husband still complains of frequency and dribbling, his doctor may change to Alfuzosin and it may be helpful to some. Unfortunately, if your husband needs this medication to open the sphincter, he will depend on it, less likely he can wean it off.
