Proteinuria: You need to have a 24 hour urine for a creatinine clearance and proteinuria (p). If you have more than 80 mg/24 hours of p, see a nephrologist. Diseases other than diabetes can cause p. Blood work will be sent off and if you proteinuria is > 500 mg/24 and the blood work does not give a diagnosis of p's causes, a kidney biopsy may be needed to give you a diagnosis, prognosis and treatment plan.
