There are tests typically required in order to rule out other gastrointestinal conditions before making a diagnosis of IBS. Your doctor will be able to further coordinate in case no response to rifaximin as there are increasing therapeutic options once a firm diagnosis is formulated. Continuity of care will be critical and a gastroenterologist specializing in IBS may be consulted by your doc.
