White coating: Not all white coating of the tongue is thrush. Some is due to overgrowth of tongue papillae with accumulation of dead cells, bacteria and other debris mixed in. Drink plenty of water, brush tongue with a soft toothbrush to flush out debris and bacteria. If not improved, consult an otolaryngologist or oral surgeon for accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment
