A 25-year-old male asked:

Hello,my ggt level was 92.my liver function panel was good. all tests within normal reference range. ast is normal, aswell as complete blood count. i drank somewhat heavily 4 days before blood test. my question is what should i make of these results?

Not much: GGT is exquisitely sensitive to alcohol induced liver damage and test should be performed while abstaining for at least a week or drinking the regular amount in order to get a reliable baseline value. Talk to your doc who would be able to discuss it further in your clinical context, test will definitely have to be repeated in few weeks among possible other tests.

No alcohol: Alcohol is a poison that never did anybody any good, ever, so stay away from it. Even more important the damage to your liver is the damage alcohol is doing to your brain. Have a healthy diet, exercise 30 minutes/day, drink plenty of water daily so your urine is mostly colorless, have safe sex, no tobacco alcohol weed or street drugs.
