A member asked:

I injured my acl and did an mri , the report said : acute contusion of the acl with mild joint effusion . is a surgery required for me to recover ?

Need clarification: Acl's are not usually read as contused. Either torn or strained. The joint line and bones can be contused, which usually goes along with and acl tear. If torn, surgery is the best option for your age.

No..: Sound like you have more of a knee strain. Mri would have said torn acl if you ruptured it. You still could have stretched it out but most people in your situation recover fine with short immobilization and therapy.
