See her DR.: If the symptoms have returned after treatment, your niece should follow up with her Dr. HSP is an inflammation of the small blood vessels leading to small areas of bleeding. It can affect the skin, intestines and kidneys. The cause is not known, but it probably involves some autoimmune reactivity. HSP usually goes away on its own after about 4-5 weeks, but there can be complications.

Vasculitis: Henoch Schonlein is a vasculitis, an inflammation of the blood vessels. The underlying cause is often unknown but many cases are caused by a Strep infection, an immunization, an insect bite or a viral infection. It’s more common in children than adults and often causes joint or abdominal pain, kidney disease or a raised, red rash. There is no treatment but it almost always gets better by itself.
