A member asked:

Is stasis dermatitis serious on a 67 year old diabetic female on ankle after surgery on surgery site 4 years after surgery? any complication risks? should we be worried? treatment?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Stasis dermatitis: People with stasis dermatitis, & especially diabetics, have to be very protective of the affected skin as it has lost some of its barriers to infection. Since the lower legs &feet are farthest from our circulatory system, infections there can be very serious. In addition, if there's associated fluid collection, bacteria will thrive in those areas. Keep the skin, clean, lubricated & protected.
