Hi doctor. i've been breastfeeding for 12 months now and i'm starting to loose weight. i eat a lot but my weight is not picking up. my son no longer breastfeeds a lot since he has started eating solids. should i be taking certain supplements?

Weight gain: Weight loss while breastfeeding is common. It takes about 300-400 extra calories daily to keep up with active breastfeeding. I am sure that you are also getting a lot of exercise carrying your baby around. Try to eat an extra 400-500 calories daily to maintain or gain weight. Supplements may fill in nutritional deficits, but will not help you gain weight appropriately.
