Building muscle: Protein shakes contain high levels of amino acids which are the building blocks of muscle. Taking a protein shake prior to or after a workout once a day allows your body to use those amino acids to form new muscle. It is not advisable to take the protein shake multiple times a day unless you also want to gain weight.
