A member asked:

I read that 85% of colon cancer comes from polyps 15% not. what does the gi doc due for the 15%? hpv that can be cancerous tend to be in polyps? can ct w contrast abd/plvs pic up 2cm or larger polyps?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Colonoscopy: With rare exceptions, colon cancers arise in polyps. Colonoscopy and removal of polyps can prevent colon cancer. HPV is not a causative agent of colon polyps or colon cancer. Colonoscopy is better than imaging studies as the polyps can both be detected and removed in one procedure. Wish you good health!
